For many women, making new friends as an adult can feel surprisingly hard. Between work, family, changing life stages, and the natural busyness of Orange County living, it is easy to crave connection but not always know where to find it.
That is where OC Women Walk comes in.
What began as a small walking group with just a few women has grown into a thriving Orange County community with thousands of followers across Instagram and Facebook. But behind the numbers, the mission remains simple: create welcoming spaces where women can show up, move their bodies, explore local places, and build real friendships.
OC Women Walk was founded by Rachel, who started the group after moving to Orange County and looking for a way to meet people. Inspired by the “Hot Girl Walk” groups she had seen in Los Angeles, she searched for something similar nearby and realized Orange County did not yet have that kind of community. The first walks were small, often with only three to five women attending. Still, Rachel stayed committed to the idea that women needed more accessible ways to connect. Over time, those small gatherings grew into a larger movement.
Rachel has since moved out of the area and passed the group on to a leadership team that now works together to guide and grow the community. The team meets throughout the year to plan walks, social gatherings, fitness activities, and new ways to make the group experience even better for members.
More Than a Walking Group
While walking is at the heart of OC Women Walk, the group has grown into something much broader. Today, the community offers a variety of ways for women to connect, including social events, trivia nights, outdoor activities, line dancing, paddleboarding, coffee meetups, and fitness classes.
Many of the events are based on activities the leadership team genuinely enjoys and believes other women would enjoy too. The idea is as simple as that, if it sounds like something you would love to do with friends, chances are someone else is looking for that same experience. By organizing these activities as group events, OC Women Walk makes it easier for women to try something new, explore different parts of Orange County, and have built-in companionship while doing it.
Many members have discovered new trails, coffee shops, neighborhoods, and local gems they may not have found on their own. However, what they seem to value most is the sense of belonging.

“Community, first and foremost,” the team shared when asked what women are looking for when they join. “What we hear most often is that women are looking for genuine connection. They want a space where they can meet new people, try new things, and feel a sense of belonging.”
Taking the First Step
For someone who has never attended an OC Women Walk event before, the easiest way to get involved is also the simplest: just show up.
The team knows that attending something new alone can feel intimidating. In fact, they often hear from women who followed the group online for months before finally getting the courage to attend in person.
That hesitation is something they understand completely. Before each walk, the group does a quick introduction where attendees share their names and whether they have walked with the group before. Walk leaders and regular attendees make an effort to welcome first-timers and include them in conversation.
The goal is not to force instant friendship, but to create an environment where connection feels possible. The team also encourages new members to attend a few different walks or events before deciding whether the group is right for them. Sometimes a connection happens right away. Other times, friendship builds slowly through familiar faces and repeated conversations.
“The more you attend, the more familiar faces you’ll start to recognize,” the team shared. “What once felt intimidating often becomes something you look forward to.”

A Community for All Ages
One thing the OC Women Walk team wants more people to understand is that the group is truly open to women of all ages. The group was started by a woman in her 20s and has welcomed women from their 20s through their 60s and beyond. Mothers and daughters attend. Friends come together. Coworkers, neighbors, and women attending solo all find their way into the community.
Recently, the team has heard that some people perceive the group as catering to a certain age group. They want to gently clear up that misconception.
“Just because we are inclusive does not mean the group is too old or too young for you,” they shared. “Chances are if you join us, you will find someone in your peer group to talk to.” That inclusive spirit is one of the reasons the group continues to grow. OC Women Walk is not about fitting into one specific stage of life. It is about creating opportunities for women to connect in a way that feels approachable, flexible, and welcoming.
Growing With Purpose
With 4.6K followers on Instagram and nearly 6K members in the Facebook group, OC Women Walk has clearly struck a chord. Still, the team is honest about what those numbers mean.
A large online following does not always translate into huge event attendance. Many followers are what the team lovingly describes as “long-time lurkers,” watching from the sidelines until they feel ready to come in person.
That insight speaks to a larger truth: many women want connection, but taking the first step can be hard.
OC Women Walk gives women that gentle opening. There is no complicated sign-up process, no pressure to be outgoing, and no expectation that you already know someone. The group’s event posts include helpful information about location, route, parking, and what attendees can expect, so women can feel more comfortable before they arrive.

Looking Ahead
As OC Women Walk continues to grow, the team hopes more women will give the group a try. They are excited about new social activities, continued walks, and more opportunities to bring women together throughout Orange County.
Their vision for the future is simple: to keep growing while remaining a welcoming space for all women.
When asked what “living well” means to them, their answer beautifully reflects the spirit of the group.
“Living well means doing things that leave you feeling happy, healthy, and fulfilled. For us, that means being active, connecting with the world around us, and connecting with others.”
At LuxaDaisy, we believe that connection is an essential part of living well. OC Women Walk is a wonderful reminder that sometimes the path to friendship, confidence, and community begins with one simple step.
