At LuxaDaisy, we believe every woman has a story worth celebrating, and Susan Svoboda shines brightly as a reminder of how courage and determination can turn challenge into purpose. As an author, motivational speaker, and breast cancer survivor, Susan embodies resilience, humor, and heart. She’s the kind of woman who inspires others not by pretending life is easy, but by showing what’s possible when you keep moving forward with grace and grit.
The Power of Determination
When asked what habits play the most important role in her life, Susan doesn’t hesitate: “I am a shameless self-promoter,” she says with a grin. But behind that humor is a powerful lesson in perseverance and self-belief.
Since publishing her book, I Hate the Color Pink, Susan has spoken to more than 60 groups of women across five states, sharing her story and encouraging others to become their own health advocates.
Her approach is simple yet fearless. She tells everyone about her book and asks every person she meets if they know a group that might benefit from her message. When people say no, she smiles and says, “Next!”
That unwavering determination has helped her sell over 2000 copies, far surpassing the typical 200–250 sales of a self-published book.
“If I don’t believe in my story, who will?” she says.

Finding Purpose Through Challenge
Susan’s path to authorship began with her personal blog, where she reflected on life, love, and lessons learned. Friends often encouraged her to write a book, but she never felt she had a “big enough story.”
Then came the moment that changed everything.
“God tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘Hey kid, have I got a story for you!’” she recalls.
That story began the day she heard the words no woman wants to hear, You have breast cancer. Like so many of the one in eight women in the United States who will face this diagnosis, Susan’s world was turned upside down. Fear and uncertainty crept into her thoughts, and the process of navigating doctors, treatments, and emotions became overwhelming.
Susan chose to face it with honesty and humor. Writing became her lifeline, a way to process, to stay hopeful, and to remind herself that even in the hardest moments, there’s always light to be found.
Her memoir, I Hate the Color Pink, takes readers through her first year after diagnosis, from terrifying disbelief to courage, resolve, and eventual acceptance. With honesty and warmth, she shares what it means to rebuild your life and sense of self while battling something so deeply personal.
As she often says, “It’s a club I never wanted to belong to, but here we are.”
The book’s title perfectly captures her personality: bold, honest, and a little bit cheeky. “I hate those little pink ribbons that remind me of my breast cancer, and it’s a really catchy title for a book, don’t you think?” she laughs.
The Importance of “Your Tribe”
In her book, Susan talks about the importance of finding your tribe, the people who lift you up, celebrate your wins, and stand by you when life gets tough.
“Women need other women. We empower each other,” she says.
She credits her circle of girlfriends for being her rock during her cancer journey, and her husband, Mark, her partner of 50 years, for his unwavering love and belief in her.
“You’ll know my husband and me really well by the time you finish the book,” she joked. “It’s very candid!”
A Message That Shines
Susan’s story is one of humor, grit, and grace. Her voice, equal parts honesty and heart, reminds us that even when life feels uncertain, we can still choose courage. She continues to advocate for early detection and regular mammograms, encouraging women to take charge of their own health journeys.
“I will never stop advocating for women’s health,” she says. “If I don’t share my story, who will?”
